What to Expect
There is little inconvenience to you during the installation of your asphalt drive. Gravel and grade work may be driven on immediately. However, you should wait 24 hours before driving on your new asphalt, and we also recommend waiting a week before parking on it. If it is necessary to use the newly asphalted area immediately, take care not to turn your power steering too rapidly as this may “scuff” the asphalt. This will disappear with time, but is unsightly.
Maintenance of Asphalt
Properly maintained asphalt will provide service for many years. Protect your asphalt from puncture damage from trailer hitches and motorcycle and bicycle stands by placing a board under such items. In hot weather, you may notice “scuff” marks caused by turning the wheels of a car too fast or “dents” where heavy vehicles have parked for long periods. These problems will self-correct as the weather cools and the drive is compacted with use.
Gas or oil spills should be mopped up immediately. To further protect your drive from gas and oil damage, frost damage, and to maintain the appearance of your drive, we recommend a protective seal coat one year after installation of your driveway, and then every two to three years. You can do this yourself or contact us.
